Prelaunch Jitters

Welcome back!

Been hard at work getting Simple Squares all tested and ready for launch but wanted to take a break and make a post.

Game Updates:

Barring something significant breaking, I will be launching Simple Squares come Thursday! See the last post for more info about that. I’ve been making a post-launch list of features to add (new block types, additional multiplayer specific power-ups and incentives, more official levels, etc.) so be ready to hear more about that after the initial launch.

Beyond that, I have commissioned some of the last remaining art for Go Once More and am excited to get back to that. I have had the art for multiple bosses ready for a bit now and am ready to dive back into that one fully.

Design Discussion:

To anyone that has worked in the software industry, you’re all aware of the corpo-speak about two-way doors and establishing/losing trust. And a lot of it is true, it’s difficult to gain people’s trust back whenever you break it and a lot of decisions are about how to minimize risk of that occurring. But I hope people are also open to believing some decisions are made in good faith.

I hope that Simple Squares has no issues. Absolutely 0. But that isn’t reasonable. I have tested as best I could and I believe it is in a state that is ready for launch. However, the lingering feeling that some default setting is horribly wrong or that some systems with driver XYZ are going to have broken builds or yada yada is not hunky-dory and all these other baseless concerns are always going to be present before a big launch. I have had to stop pursuing perfection in order to share something good. I have had to accept that if there are problems, I will get around to fixing them in time and that small issues will be able to keep users’ trust.

Ah, sorry, I’m just rambling at this point. Pre-launch jitters. Please don’t mob me if there are launch issues tho!

Thoughts of the Week:

I’m just excited haha. Although this isn’t as grand of a game as Go Once More will be, I am still proud of it. The people I had playtesting it these past couple weeks definitely had fun with it and just because it’s, well, more simple doesn’t mean it’s less important. And the same goes to you! Whatever thing you’re working on or having the idea for doesn’t have to be earth-shatteringly huge. Just do something you want to do and show people.

Closing:

Thanks for reading this far! This Thursday, mark it. Simple Squares will be out! Check the game page in the top right here!
